Good news from Fat Gold:

Our oil from the 2022 harvest is ready to ship!

You can get your fresh Fat Gold Standard in the online shop.

The new Fat Gold Blue will follow later this month.

Olive oil (as we never tire of saying) is best understood as the juice of the olive, and just like any other fruit juice, fresher is better.

A high-quality extra virgin olive oil, sealed tight and stored with care, is still great a year or more after it’s milled… but it is, in this season, just following the harvest, EXTRA great.


Here’s the grove where we got the frantoio olives to make this oil:

For the first time, all the fruit we milled in 2022 was from organic groves. Not only that: both mills we used this season are organic, too. Fat Gold itself is not yet certified organic, but now that the pieces are in place, we’re considering it. (As many of you know, it’s a hefty amount of paperwork.)

It’s important to say that olives are a low-maintenance crop to begin with. Even a farmer who rolled her eyes at “organic” probably wouldn’t spray any pesticides on her trees; they are simply not necessary. What she probably WOULD use, just for convenience, is the herbicide Roundup—sprayed all over the grove floor to suppress weeds.

Happily, that’s not the case at any of the groves we worked with in 2022.

This combination of certified organic groves and certified organic mills is a destination we always hoped to reach. It feels great to work with partners all operating this way… and doing the paperwork to prove it!
