Greetings from Fat Gold:

We received some fun recognition recently, and we wanted to share it with you!

First: we were recently discussed in a New York Times podcast, The Wirecutter Show, identified as an editor’s favorite:

MICHAEL: So one of my favorites is Fat Gold, and they’re actually based in California. They’re moderately priced. It’s just reliably good, and it’s so flavorful and robust, and it’s one of my faves. And we’ll actually be trying some today, so—

CHRISTINE: Ooh, I’m very excited.

CAIRA: Fat Gold.

A bit later in the show, the hosts do a live tasting of a bunch of different olive oils, Fat Gold among them. Spoiler: they liked us!

The entire discussion is fun and worthwhile; you can listen (and/or read the transcript) on the New York Times website. Naturally, we endorse the title:

Second: this week, our friend and neighbor Samin Nosrat published her new cookbook, a beautiful volume titled simply: Good Things. Samin is the author of the super bestseller Salt Fat Acid Heat, and the host of the Netflix show of the same name.

We are mentioned in the new book’s opening chapters, and it’s delightful to see a little Fat Gold tin reproduced there on the page:

In concert with her launch, Samin has organized the Good Things Marketplace, with links to many of her favorite small producers, some of whom have produced special editions of their products to tie in.

Annual subscribers know that Fat Gold’s great creative canvas is THE MAGNET, so, we devised a special design to celebrate Good Things and stuck it to our flagship oils, Standard and Blue:

You’ll find those in Samin’s marketplace.

Books have staying power, and it’s cool to know Fat Gold is featured in this glowing volume that readers will consult for many years to come. Congratulations, Samin, and thanks for your support!

Okay, it’s fun to be mentioned in a super-popular podcast and a hotly-anticipated new book… but, that’s all downstream from the real work, which happens mainly in a sixty-day window that is fast approaching.

We’re writing this message from the San Joaquin Valley, where we are reassembling the Fat Gold mill, getting it ready to run in October. The olives are looking great—it’s been a cool summer in California—and we can’t wait to make some super fresh oil for you.

We watched a LOT of tins go out the door in August, thanks in large part to the Wirecutter Show. But, don’t worry, the online shop is still stocked. You can use the discount code LIFESTOOSHORT to get 10% off any order, from now until October 1. Stock up!
