Greetings from Fat Gold!
Our Big Fat Gold Sale was, once again, a huge success—thanks for your warm response.
Just a couple of days after sending our previous email, our shelves were bare. So: we filled them again!
The online shop is now fully stocked with fresh 2024 oil—both of our flagship offerings:
We aim for consistency with these; we don’t want each year’s offering to be a huge weird surprise. That said, of course there’s always variation between harvests.
So, here’s the scoop on this year’s oil:
Our Fat Gold Standard is one of the finest we’ve ever made, with a strong note of almond—the aroma in the mill was incredible. This oil also has notes of black pepper and fresh herbs. The biophenols came in at a blockbuster 629 mg/kg—one of the highest we’ve ever milled.
Our Fat Gold Blue is fruity and fragrant, with notes of apple and chamomile. Arbequina tends to come in a bit lower on the biophenol side, but this one surprised us: it packs a punch at 411 mg/kg.
(If you’ve forgotten why you should care about biophenols, or if you never learned, never fear: our Guide to Extra Virgin Olive Oil explains it all, and provide links to some compelling recent health research.)
Both of these oils turned out great: a happy balance of consistency and natural variation. We hope you’ll enjoy both, now and for the rest of the year!
We’ve also made an important change to our packaging!
The change is subtle but important: the pouring spout and cap are both smaller in diameter. Here’s a peek:
These spouts will start rolling out immediately, and our inventory will be mixed for a little while, until we’re using the new tins on everything.
This change should help with flow control and, most of all, prevent dribbling. The old pouring spout had been a source of frustration for several years, but there aren’t many options for this kind of packaging. We’re happy to have found one at last.
Go get some fresh oil and pour it with precision!
