Frequently asked questions

Is the oil extra virgin?

We have virgin and extra virgin grades available.

Is the oil edible?

Our oil is food grade, and every batch is lab-tested for quality. It may not have the delicious flavor profile of Fat Gold’s culinary olive oils, which is why we can offer it to you at a lower price.

Is it organic?

All the olives we use are certified organic. We’re in the process of certifying our mill and facility for organic production. We hope to offer certified organic olive oil very soon.

Do you sell pomace oil?

No. We only process fresh olives and only sell oil from the first extraction, a.k.a. “first pressing.” We do not process olive pomace.

Who makes this olive oil?

Fat Gold founder Kathryn Tomajan makes every batch. She believes olive oil belongs in everyone’s home apothecary as well as in their kitchen.

Where are you located?

Our olive mill is in Madera, California, near Fresno. Our olives come from family-operated farms in San Joaquin County, Fresno County, Santa Clara County, and Bakersfield County.

Can you provide information about each specific batch?

Yes, we keep detailed records for each batch, down to the hour and minute. We can tell you when and where your olive oil emerged in the space-time continuum.

How can I use this olive oil?

Our oil is suitable for making soaps, salves, and balms—any kind of skin or hair care formulation. It’s an excellent carrier oil for herbal infusions and macerations. Because our oil is made with care and intention, we also recommend using it for ceremony and ritual.
